Art historian Dochka Kisyova presents the exhibition in the studio of the Bulgarian National Radio program “Artefir”:
“We will open this exhibition in just two days. It is unusual because the artist has not exhibited before the public for many years. Secondly, he has tried to connect the opening date with the sequence number of his solo exhibition: it opens on March 6 and is his sixth solo show. His works bring the force of different messages. I would like to note that the artist opened his first exhibition in the year that marked the democratic changes in our country. His subsequent solo exhibitions introduced Daniel Dinev not only to the public but also to serious art critics, including the late Maximilian Kirov. Kirov’s attitude toward Dinev’s work in the early 1990s was positive and clearly expressed his approval of the young artist’s painting.
During the period in which Daniel Dinev was not appearing before the public, he did not stop painting. From 1992 onward he worked for various publishers, making book covers and illustrations, while intensively studying the possibilities of new technologies. Dinev’s works are recognizable and his painting has a very characteristic handwriting. His art is filled with deep sensitivity, and his creative searches do not leave him even at night. Like the Surrealists, he recreates his dreams in his paintings. His special attitude toward Salvador Dalí is therefore no accident. He admires the artist and, without imitating him, feels a strong affinity with his work.
In terms of color, plastic form and composition, Dinev’s works are distinguished by rich technical skill, a foundation for creative success. His compositions contain strong dynamics, a special attitude toward color, perfection of form and volume. He carefully develops every detail. For him the title of a painting is extremely important and forms part of the work’s overall conception. Daniel Dinev is appreciated not only by Bulgarian audiences but also by admirers abroad. At the end of the last century a Dutch admirer and patron organized his solo exhibition in Amsterdam, while a collection of his watercolors went to Great Britain.
His paintings are addressed to young people and are saturated with the deep intellectual energy of their author. He seeks to make viewers think and return again and again to what he creates. His paintings are part of private collections not only in Bulgaria but also in the United States, Japan, Germany and other countries around the world.”
